What is Shared & Final Layout

What is Shared & Final Layout

When working on content in Experience Editor, there are two presentation detail types: Shared and Final Layout.

When editing Shared presentation, I am editing the renderings that will appear across all languages and all versions of the current page.

When editing Final presentation, I am editing the renderings that will appear in the current language and current version of the current page.

If you are not working in a multilingual site, you should ALWAYS be in Shared layout.

If you are working in a multilingual site, read the Shared vs Final layout best practices.

Switching between Shared and Final Layout

  1. In Experience Editor, navigate to the Presentation tab in the Ribbon
    1. Make sure Shared Layout is selected

  2. To switch between layouts, click on button and select Shared Layout from dropdown

  3. If you are in Shared Layout, you will see a blue ribbon across the top of your page saying you are in Shared Layout

  4. You have the ability to reset Shared and/or Final Layout back to its original state (Standard Values if it is set up)
    1. By reseting layout, you are removing all updates and content you have made
