Content Folder Structure:


The Content Tree is where all your items for your Sitecore instance are organized. These items are organized in a hierarchy within the tree.


Where to Start 
  • Beginning a new project there will be basic folders created automatically such as home, selections, and snippets




Media Folder Structure:

The media library is a tool for storing, administering and uploading media files to the system. 
The media files stored in the Media Library may be embedded into the website content.

The Media Library allows you to handle media files of various types:

  • Images
  • Word documents
  • PDF files
  • Excel sheets


The structure and organization of the media library is important for any project within sitecore


Make sure to create and organize the folder structure before uploading any media items to the media library


Where to Start
  • First understand all the different page types that are going to be added to the site and all the images that are included for each page type

    • Will the site contain a lot of blogs with images, article pdfs, or infographic pdf in the article content? Or will the site have multiple landing pages with large banner images? 

    • These details will help determine which folders are needed within the media library

  • The folder structure is built in a hierarchy to help organize all the different folders needed



Is it better to nest multiple folders  within each other or have multiple folders  under the main site folder? 


  • It is best to have a balance of a folder hierarchy with just enough folders created to organize the media items

    • Having folders in a hierarchy helps to organize the media library, but when too many folders are nested within other folders then it can be difficult or frustrating to everyone on the project

    • There should be a sensible flow in the hierarchy without burying the media items
